“In the Republican primary, Burns is competing with William Russell, a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army who challenged Murtha in the 2008 general election. Some of Russell’s policy prescriptions, like giving seniors $1,000 monthly vouchers in lieu of Medicare so they can buy insurance on the open market, give us pause. But Russell has considered the issues with a depth and thoughtfulness that Burns has not demonstrated. He also has a background in defense and foreign policy, something that Burns lacks. We believe Russell would be the better choice for Republicans.”
I have been calling Washington area resident’s on Bill’s behalf and many of them know Bill’s name. I am not surprised with the Observer’s recommendation.
I have backed Bill in the last two election cycles. He seems like the no nonsense type of Conservative that needs to be elected to get this country back on solid ground. Bill took on John Murtha when no one felt Murtha could be beat and almost pulled the upset off. I will stick with Bill instead of pushing for a committee selected candidate.
I like Russell. Veteran, national and international experiences concerning our government. As a military man and Army Ranger he understands Honor,Loyalty,Discipline and Perseverance. Winners never quit!!!!!!
I just hope the confusion over the special election and primary election does not cause a problem.
I have seen 1st hand republican shenanigans like what happened with Burns before. The republicans still haven’t figured this out yet. We need Bill Russell not some smoke filled backroom deal push for Burns just because he brings his own money! Stop selling running spots GOP or you will go the way of the DODO Bird…..
The Republican Party has once again shot itself in the foot (or head) with Burns. I can’t believe it! Mr. Russell was brave enought to run against Murtha on last election, and where was Burns? Was is because the Republican establishment didn’t care about the race then because it was “unwinnable?” Ok, now May 18, 2010, Burns is running? Not a chance. The Republican leaders responsible for this should change their party affiliation now and join the ranks of Spector. Traitors!
