Zogby: Big Lead for Russell

“Our campaign has been on the ground in every area of the district,” said Russell, who is also a GOP candidate in the special election to be held May 18th to fill the unexpired term of Rep. John Murtha. “It’s encouraging to see all the hard work paying off,” Russell continued.

I called the PA GOP today to ask them why they haven’t endorsed you. Got voicemail, left a message. Will call again tomorrow…. Good luck!

  3. John R./ Connellsville says:

    Mr. Russell ,
I appreciated the personal phone call from you thanking me for working for you in the last campaign . I’ll be helping out again if my job lets me do so .
If the PA GOP dosen’t endorse you they will never get another dime of my hard earned money . My policy is to donate to the candidate . That way I know my money is being put to good use .
Keep up the good work & God Bless

Received a solicitation today over the name ofKasia Russell. Claims that Col. Russell is unaware of the mailing. Mailing is an attack on a highly decorated veteran who has died. How can I support you if you can’t control your family and campaign manager and staff? You should appologize to Col./Rep. Murtha’s family and the district.

  5. Thomas Mehaffey says:

Even though you are not in my district, I live close to one of the districts that disgrace of a politician had and I support you Mr. Russell. Thank you for your service and God Bless.

To Bernard Yavitch: With all due respect to Mr. Murtha, he may have been an honorable veteran, but he was nowhere near an honorable politician with almost 30 years of corruption during his term. Look up some of the corruption and maybe you’ll wake up from your nap. I suppose you also forgot about Mr. Murtha turning his back on the Marines in Iraq, accusing them of murdering innocent civilians, when in fact the investagation was still ongiong and now we know that was not the case. I thought due process was still permitted in this country, especially before some crook politician labels you a murderer. I guess it only applies for progressvies/liberals.

You call the truth an attack Mr. Yavitch, I call it Freedom!!!

    http://www.crewsmostcorrupt.org/summaries/murtha.php

Rep. Murtha’s ethics issues and violations stem from (1) his ties to the PMA Group, a now defunct lobbying firm under federal investigation; (2) his ties to Kuchera Industries, a defense contractor under federal investigation; (3) his ties to defense executives and former military personnel convicted of skimming money from government contracts; (4) actions he may have taken to benefit his brother’s lobbying clients; and (5) his chief of staff’s threats to a political opponent. Rep. Murtha was included in CREW’s 2006, 2007, and 2008 reports on congressional corruption.

    Case closed. Vote Russell!!!!

  6. David Wetter, Meridian Ms says:

Personally served in Germany and Kosovo with William T Russell and am hoping and praying for his election to fill the ex Marine, Murtha’s seat. Pa will be well served by Bill Russell in Congress and America will have another fighter in the war being waged against our constitution by the liberals and rinos.

  7. Dave says:

    go bill go

  8. Twanna Tyler says:

Lt.Col.Russell, Thank you for stepping up and wanting to represent America. The liberals think they have won but they are not in control JESUS is. I do not think you will have to worry about Mr. Murtha. You will be in my families prayers.

  9. Pastor David Garver says:

Just wanted to say, “I am praying for you, MY Brother.” Fight the Good Fight for America.

  10. Alice says:

    Dear Mr. Russell

I was thoroughly disgusted that the GOP chose a late-comer as the Republican candidate for the special election. This is why I DO NOT give ANY money to the party…either on the national or state level. We saw what happened in the NY 23rd…a complete RINO was chosen by the Republican Party….and then she turns around and endorses the Democrat.
And as far as Mr. Yavich….I say he is lying! You and your entire family are Patriots of the highest order.
Out of respect for Congressman Murtha, you put your campaign on hold.
I would be proud to work on your campaign again this year!

  11. Tom Andrews says:

This is my second time of supporting LtCol. Russell, and I will continue to do so. As a former Marine living in California, I fully understand the challenges we face across the country this year and on into the future. We cannot let the threat of GOP or Democrat policy makers holding all the cards deter us from continuing in the quest for true conservative leaders. Go Bill!!

  12. Donna says:

I just saw the news via a link on realclearpolitics.com.

I am disappointed that you were not selected as the Republican nominee for the purposes of finishing the term of the late Rep. Murtha. I wish the parties would give credit for running serious campaigns against strong incumbents like you did in 2006 and 2008 I believe.

How confusing for voters on May 18, who must select a person to finish a term, on the same day that they select a primary representative for the November elections and a possible subsequent 2 year full term.

Now the Republican candidates must run for the contested Primary at the same time 1 Republican is trying to win the seat for the remainder of Murtha’s term. With the Democratic nominee for the special election basically a Murtha guy, he will have access to all of Murtha’s political connections. Republicans must win this seat!

Please inform voters to vote for Burns for the remainder of the term, and Russell for the primary. I believe it can be done. Voters are tired of being in the dark and receptive to good information.

Good Government is what we need to save our children’s American future.

Best Wishes to the 12th District in PA!
    Sincerely,
    PTA Mom in Maryland

  13. Bernard Yavitch says:

Since Some seem to miss my point I’ll try again. To send out a fund raising request attacking a deseased decorated marine as if he were still alive and a candidate and to furthur state that the candidate was unaware that the request was being made though it was sent by the campaign and used campaign funds to mail it does not indicate someone who has control of his staff. Though Con. Murtha may have been quick to criticize Active warriors without a hearing what about some of you critisizing a deceased person without a hearing and then cleared by the committe doing the investigation

  14. Mike says:

    Dear Mr.Bernard Yavitch,
Could the mass mailing have been sent out prior to Mr. Murtha’s death? I’m sure the campaign couldn’t recall it from the mail…
Do you remember Paul Wellstone and the cryptic campaign from the grave. Democrats took all of their cheap shots while at the funeral and any retort or support for his opponent was (dishonorable) to Mr. Wellstone. Let us know when it’s OK.
    Sincerely,

  15. Hal Jalikakik says:

If Zogby has you up 36-7, where are the other 57%? At least Burns ran a business and was successful…..and he was born and raised in this district. There seems to be some question as to where Mr. Russell resides, year round that is?

  16. Tim Bilsky says:

I heard Mr. Russell speak a while back and left the meeting very impressed. He is an upstanding individual, a 9/11 Pentagon survivor, proud father and husband, honorable veteran, and accepts no party funds.

I also heard Mr. Burns speak and came away impressed. However, his backing from the Republican conference over a candidate who ran very well against Murtha last election leaves me questioning the party’s loyalty. I hope money did not buy the selection.

In the end, most constituents want the candidate who can best represent their interests. I still believe that Bill Russell is that person.

Mr. Burns seems to have a grasp of small government ideals, but his refusal at a recent meeting to consider a reduction in Congresspersons already substantial – not even considering kickbacks – salary is disconcerting. I attended this meeting about a week and a half ago in Washington, PA.

Ultimately, I will support the selected Republican running against any Democrat and hope, if that person is Tim Burns, that he holds to heart the interest of those who vote for him.

  17. jerry zepatos says:

KEEP GOING RUSSELL, WE HEAR IN FLORIDA SUPPORT YOU ALSO I HAVE BEEN SUPPORTING YOUR CAMPAIGN SINCE THE FIRST GO AROUND WITH MURTHA..HOW DARE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY PUT IN SOME RINO TO RUN AGAINST YOU..YOU REMIND ME OF A WONDERFUL CANDIDATE WE ARE SUPPORTING IN OUR OWN DISTRICT HERE IN FLORIDA FL 22 LTC ALLEN WEST WE NEED MORE MEN LIKE YOU AND ALLEN TO GO TO WASHINGTONAND FIGHT FOR US THERE….HONOR AND INTEGRITY HAS BEEN LOST IN BOTH PARTYS GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP UP THE FIGHT

  18. Ted Adams says:

Geaux Bill! All of your Tiger brethren are behind you..

  19. Alice says:

    In response to Mr. Jalikakik:

Although Mr. Burns runs a successful business, why is he only now deciding to run for the seat? Why hasn’t he ever challenged Rep. Murtha before? Could it be that the only reason he is doing this is because there is now a chance for the GOP to win that seat? Not because of the death of Rep. Murtha, but because of the agenda of the Democrat party that makes them so unpopular at this time.

Mr. Russell has been hitting the pavement in this district for almost 2 years, meeting and listening to the concerns of the people. He has spelled out what he stands for and I think that a vote for him would be the right vote.

I also think that we need more people in Congress who have served in the military. They have the intelligence, discipline and above all else, a love for the country.
If they were committed enought to serve in the military, they are committed enough to serve in Congress.

  20. “That we are to stand by the president, right or wrong is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” ~Theodore Roosevelt
If you are a Republican first, you are neither patriot or American.

  21. Col Jim Bathurst USMA (Ret) says:

To Bernard Yavitch: Ask any Marine (current, former or retired) what they thought of Murtha; we disowned him many years ago. I served with Murtha during his Vietnam tour where he served as an Intelligence Officer, and you don’t want to know what I thought of him as a fellow Officer. I hope you folks are enjoying your multi-million dollar airport for which we, the taxpayers, paid. What a crackpot you must be to make a comment about a man’s wife who thinks enough of her husband and our country to send a letter asking for support. That was a cheap shot, but nothing more than I would expect from someone who thought John Murtha was a hero.

  22. vieva johnson says:

Don’t support the Republican party choice. Remember those that got elected were supported by the people, the Grassroots! See what’s happening in Florida, Crist vs Rubio! Remember the $1M given by the party to their choice in NY, only to have her withdraw and give support to the Democrat. One would think that once in a lifetime would be enough for such blunder! Some party leaders still want to ‘compromise’ principles in hopes of winning!

  23. Frank Hogan says:

I hope you will work to reinstate the US Constitution
And add one law to make the politicians subject to all laws citizens are subjected to.

  24. mark verno says:

I served in the gulf war and have never met a more honest, principaled man than Bill Russell. You go get them, Bill, I’m behind you 100%.

  25. Joe R, Connellsville, PA says:

I personally met Mr. Russell at the Greensburg Tea Party. I was impressed with his demeanor and passion. I left my first Tea Party upset today after Rick Santorum made a GOP party pitch for Tim Burns during his speech. Typical establishment poitics. This is more of the same that has left the American people completely without representation. Mr. Russell, you now have my undivided attention and support.

  26. Kris says:

How dishonorable of the GOP to bring in a second candidate after Bill Russell almost beat disgraceful John Murtha. Does loyalty mean nothing to Steele and the GOP? Is the party only interested in who can bring the fattest checkbook? I don’t live in Bill Russell’s district but I’m proud to contribute to his campaign and I look forward to celebrating his victory from afar, knowing that his election will bring conservatives one more vote closer to repealing and reforming the socialist legislation passed by the current Congress.

  27. R.C. Schilling says:

I read these review and see with the GOP has done in the elective to continue to strip away America! I can personally state from the 1st time I meet Bill Russell as he gave a speech in Johnstown the old fashion way of politicing. I have 3 challenged sons there with me that day who also are registered voters and said they wanted to vote for him (BILL RUSSELL) because he was REAL. This man accepted their help and treated them as “real people” they handed out cards on the eve of the election and was there when the numbers got so close. The saw a man “RUSSELL) not go down in defeat but a man who began his focus on the next election with pride and dignity and a love for his nation and God! My three son’s to this day wear the RUSSELL shirts with pride. When in the last time you knew a man running for office had time for a person of special needs? He treated them with dignity and saw value in them as He (RUSSELL) will for every person in his district. A individual who believes in the U.S. Constitution and placed himself in harms way to defend it. This is a man of principle with integrity
and we need such a man, this man to be the brakeman to halt the present liberal agenda or America will never be the SAME. It is a vote that makes the difference and I know where 4 are going. Your vote can make a difference. What the other comments do not tell you is when was the last time someone came so close to beat Mr Murtha and the Gleason Machine is a blemish on PA politics. My grandmother actually worked as a committee person for Murtha in the Special Election where he took the seat of Congresman Saylor. I have hand cards to this day my grandmother had so I am well aware of the decay of our party at the hand of the machine and those who back it. May God Bless the efforts and victory of BILL RUSSELL FOR CONGRESS. Show your support and write in a name that will not forget yours.

  28. Fr. Marc Solomon says:

I’m rooting and praying for you brother! Keep fighting the good fight for our nation.

    God bless Mr. Russell

  29. George M Thomas, Jr says:

Mr. Russell, how are you doing politically ? It seems the Republican Party has abandoned you ? Can you still make a GOOD fight of it ?

  30. Helen ezarik says:

William Russell, I hope that you have not abandoned your supporters, I made a clear choice to vote for you, but I fail to see any advertisements, videos, statements, pleas or any comments from you in this late time in the campaigns, we need to see that you are still the vibrant candidate that we all love and admire. Please speak up and let us know how we are faring………..

  31. Clarene (Donora, PA Blue Dog) says:

I am a democrat but most of all…I am a very PROUD Supporter of Bill Russell!!! I am soooo disappointed in the GOP, but I have strong faith that the PEOPLE will know who the best man for the job is. I will be wearing my “Bill Russell for Congress” hoodie when I go to vote today.I am ready for the comments from the democratic voters at my poll just as I got while I was standing there in 2008 passing out tootsie roll pops. BRING IT ON DEMS…I AM READY!!! “BOOTS ON THE GROUND BABY!!!!”
GOOD LUCK BILL! We are behind you 100%!

  32. Jason T. Phelps says:
